New Spice Phone Brings 3D to Mobiles

Spice has launched what it refers to as India's first mobile phone with a 3D display- the View D for Rs. 4,299. According to the company, the View 3D mobile phone will allow users to view 3D content on the phone without requiring 3D glasses.

The View D's notable features include, of course, a 2.4-inch 3D screen, a 2MP camera, an FM radio, a media player and support for microSD cards up to 16GB. The View D allows users to toggle between regular 2D viewing or 3D viewing. The phone also has a feature that allows users to remotely delete data on their phone in case it gets misplaced or stolen.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Spice expects to sell at least 20,000 to 30,000 phones every month.

On a personal note, I haven't been the biggest fan of 3D and honestly, I don't see how to 3D content on a 2.4-inch display makes sense, especially at that price-point. Yes, the Nintendo 3DS has a 3.5-inch display capable of displaying 3D without glasses but its launch price is going to be close to the Rs. 15,000 mark, a cool Rs. 10,000 more than the Spice phone.
